'Beyond the Beach,' uke king, 'King Kong' at Sunset event

Two giants of entertainment at Sunset on the Beach in Waikiki: 'Ukulele whiz Jake Shimabukuro performs tonight ...

... and director Peter Jackson's 2005 blockbuster "King Kong" fills the screen tomorrow.

Sunset on the Beach once again takes over Queen's Surf in Waikiki with food booths, entertainment and moving pictures on that 30-foot screen.

Tonight's feature is the new cable TV series "Beyond the Beach," which is being filmed entirely in West O'ahu. Four episodes will be screened, and a few cast members are expected to attend. 'Ukulele wizard Jake Shimabukuro, whose music is on the show, also will perform tonight.

Tomorrow's film is the special-effects biggie "King Kong," directed by Peter Jackson.

Sunset on the Beach festivals begin at 4 p.m. Admission is free. 923-1094.
