This past Tuesday, KGMB had telecast a tribute in
honor of Mr. Don Ho. Watching this special on
your father's life have brought back many fond
memories for me. Although I am much younger than
your father I remember the old Honey's Cafe in
Kaneohe. When your father and the Alii's were
playing at the old Waikiki Sands, my friends and I would make it out every chance we had to have
dinner, watch the show and hopefully be asked to
dance with the servicemen there. While watching
the special on KGMB, I saw a page from his year
book at Kamehameha School. I had notice a picture and the name Eugene Kaupiko. Eugene is
my first cousin, was a beach boy back then on
Waikiki Beach. He had passed away couple years
ago. To his wife and children, my deepest sympathy. Aloha

While serving in vietnam, I took R&R in Waikiki. The outrigger gave me an outrageously low rate in july of 1970. The highlight of our 6 day stay was attending Don Ho's performance at Duke Kahanamoku's in the international marketplace. He showed recognition to the military personnel in attendence and gave a performance my wife and I will NEVER forget, Don may you rest in peace and "Suck Em Up". After 38 years we went back to complete our Hawaiian experience and do & see the things we could'nt back then. I had no idea of Don's passing and it was a cloud ouer our visit however, it makes us cherish even more being touched by this wonderful man. He said every time I tape on my glass you "Suck Em Up" and the girls would refill our glasses. God bless you Don we will love you forever. R.Luzzi

I think Don did have a gift. He was an entertainer who really related well to his fans before, during and after his shows.
It was natural for me to go to his show, as that seems to be the mandate in the back of one's mind when one comes to Hawaii. He truly epitomized the aloha spirit of Hawaii. His show was a lot of fun.
And no matter where you were from, he would keep the conversation going. I'll remember you. Thanks for the happiness.

What can I say that has not already been said? My deepest condolences to the entire Ho Family and Ohana.
Don was a big part of my life in the early 80's from when I first saw him at the Polynesian Palace. Remember on my 24th birthday - my friends surprised me with a birthday cake at his show - and Don brought me up on stage and sang Happy Birthday to me. Was invited backstage to talk - and would periodically go and see the show.
Hawaii will be a little darker - but the sea will have much sunshine and light when everyone travels to Hawaii. And Mahala to the family for the "show to go on and continue with his memories...."
Aloha Oe Don......

To Dayna, Lei, and the entire Ho Ohana, I was saddened to hear the passing of your dad and the feelings of losing my dad(Ted Makalena, Sr.) back in 1968 all came back to me. I remember back in the 60's, whenever the Hawaiian Open was being played or when any of dad's golf pro buddies were in town, he would always take them to see your dad at Duke's. Your dad would call him up on stage and dad would sing "Waipi'o". Those were the days! The last time I saw your dad was at the beachboy funeral for Uncle Chico Ho, a number of years ago. Hawaii has lost another native son, but he is in good company up there with Gabby, Iz, Aunty Melva, and my dad. The lights of Waikiki will be just a little bit darker from now on, because there will never be another one like him. Aloha Uncle, A hui hou

I will always remember Uncle Don for his believing in me. The first time I meet Uncle Don was in 1971, I was 7 years old. Patty and Linda Coble where sitting in the harem section. He was playing at the Polynesian Palace. My Father was overseas in Vietnam and Uncle Don sang the song "God Bless My Daddy". I wanted Uncle Don to sing it for me. So we had a note put on his organ asking him if he would sing the song, but he didn't. He brought me on stage to sing the song with him. I will always remember that because I was scared, but he made me feel that it was alright. He also told my Mother that whenever I come to the show he would have me sing. My Mother took me there about twice a month for the next six years or so. When he found out that I learned to dance the Hula he did not let me sing anymore. He would only have me dance. Because of Uncle Don I was able to continue my dancing as I got older. He will always be in my heart because he was part of my life. Aloha Christie

Aloha to a great individual that taught so many tourists about Hawaii and the Hawaiian people. As a soldier stationed in Hawaii, Uncle Don made us feel like we were the most important people everytime we visited. He and Haumea always made the family feel special years after we left the Islands for other assignments. I will miss him on future visits.

Don Ho has always been a familiar name to me as earlier as age 8 growing up in San Diego. My mom took my sister to Oahu for her graduation present and they saw Don Ho's show in 1979. Ever since then, I always wanted to see/meet Don Ho. That dream came true in 2003 when Don Ho invited the crew of the USS Constellation (including my husband, the kids & I) to the Beach Comber for an awesome show. Haumea, you and Uncle Don made us feel special and really rolled out the red carpet for us. Uncle Don was so generous and I know that he had a special place in his heart for those that serve our country and WE will always have a special place in our heart for him. Each and everyone one of us have fond memories of the show and the guests. The dark showroom really makes a statement that an era has ended.
After so many years with us we really feel part of our OHANA is gone. Not seeing Don in the corridors and only having the Don Ho show pictures around the hotel is a really different feeling.
We all knew how humble Don was and hope that us not having all the media hype will be how he would have wanted it from the place where he last preformed.
Aloha Don, we will always remember you!
Haumea, Jackie and all the Don Ho show family - our condolences to all of you.

We are sending our condolences to the Ho Ohana, we are so sorry to hear of Uncle's passing.
I first met Don in 1966 when Don & Alii's performed here in Seattle. I was a senior in high school and my friends and I all loved Don. They surprised me and bought tickets to the show that also included their neighbors after party. I was in Heaven.
One year later I moved to Hawaii, met this wonderful beachboy and married Don's good friend and classmate Geno Kaupiko. We lost Geno a year ago this past November, and Don was on the phone the whole time listening to his services down in his home village of Milolii the whole time. Uncle Don was recovering from his own surgery.
When Geno was going to Honolulu he would always take Don his dried Opelu!
Rest in peace, and God Bless.

There really is nothing left for people to say that has not alreadfy
been written. It is amazing, but all the messages have the same
flavor. He was that kind of person. Again, as a retired fighter pilot
from Viet Nam that sipped wine with you in 2005 on your stage
and sung with you...thank you very much. May 5,2007 will be a
special day as hawaii returns the best of the best to the Pacific

My family and I wish to express our deepest sympathy to the family of the late Don Ho. My husband and I will always treasure the "good old days," when the sound of music, and golden voices of Hawaii so reflected our life style. Our mai tai glasses from Duke Kahanamoku's will always be a reminder of Don Ho and the good times.
We are so blessed that his family members are part of island community.

First saw Don on the Brady Bunch, then on cartoons, then on slot machines. Got to see him in April 2003 at his show. For ten buck we stood in front on an American flag and he put his arms on my shoulders and they snapped a picture. This guy was a class act. Lets make a huge statue of him a place in downtown Honolulu.

We were in Hawaii last August, with newborn grand-baby Lucy...who could only fall asleep listening to Don Ho. She is ten months old now, and listens to her Don Ho Gold C.D. three times a day with her bottle and nap. Her little face lights up, and she snuggles down in utter contentment the moment Tiny Bubbles begins....we were young newlywed sweethearts four decades ago, on R and R at the Duke Kahanamoku Club across from the International Marketplace, and Don Ho sang for young service men, and wives, with sweet love and appreciation for what they were doing. We were treated royally by one of the nicest, most talented performers we've ever had the priveledge to hear. God Bless the family~What a legacy he leaves behind, on the Islands who love their native son,the gift of his voice lives on

I would like to send my sincere Mahalo to The Honolulu Advertiser for posting a link to my humble page about Don Ho on my Fan Appreciation Website for his friend Danny Couch I am honored that out of all the hundreds of possible links you chose my site as one of the seven listed in your "Links to information about Ho's life career" There's one less Hoku(star)in the sky as Waikiki's night is a little bit darker since Don's passing.
I attended a HAPA concert that evening when Nathan Aweau took the microphone and announced to us that Hawai'i's music legend had passed. It was a somber concert with tears, some special chants and several songs done in Don's memory.
My deepest Condolences to his ohana, as well as his fans and friends all over the world touched by his music and persona. Aloha Oe

As a teenager, I was glued to the TV when the Don Ho show came on TV. I watched his show every week, and dreamed that someday I would go to Hawaii and tell him what a difference he made in my life. It took me 40 years, but I made it there in September 2005 and in May 2006. I went to his show each time and when he heard my story, he gave me a big hug and kiss. I told him that I will always love you, and he told me the same. We had this wonderful connection. He loved talking to my husband about being in the service and flying airplanes. He brought my husband on stage to sing a song with him and they reminissed about the military. It was a magical connection and gift to be with him those times. I had a feeling that I needed to see him soon, and now I know why. I'll always love you Don

When I was 13, in 1967, my parents got to meet in Hawaii for R&R when my dad was in the Air Force & stationed in Vietnam. My mom brought home the "Tiny Bubbles" album to me, AUTOGRAPHED. I was really taken with his music and nearly wore it out. My whole family loves the album and I am very sad for him to be gone. He was such an entertainer on television or his stage and so nice to his audiences. I hope it helps his family to know he was so well loved. His memory is carried close to the hearts of his fans all over the world. He'll be missed. Hawaii will be missing part of it's allure.

I have been seeing Don's shows since 1967 as a young airline stewardess. He would let us in "free" and waive the cover charge for his "Ho Harem" young ladies' group & we would be seated up front. I followed him thru the years from Duke's to the Ohana Beachcomber and his shows always held the magic of Aloha & Ohana. Many of us have returned thru the years bringing our grand children to see his show. Everyone loved Don and Don loved everyone. He and his music made Hawaii so special for so many. I'll raise my "Suck 'em Up" glass and sing "I'll Remember You". See you on May 5th.

Don Ho was a great American. He respected his heritage and the culture of Hawaii, and yet participated in the mainstream as an Air Force veteran, popular recording artist, and entertainer who toured the United States. He could be a role model for how to bridge cultures and race. However, not everyone has the assets of Don's tremendous talent in which he could express love and understanding of humanity, and a lot of fun.

What a first-class showman you were, right up to my last seeing you in October, 2005! And what memories you leave with me! I still have the "Suck em Up" glass you drank from and left on your Cadillac dashboard when you drove my friend and me to a party back in 1967. I always cherished it as a souvenir and I will now drink from it on May 5 in a toast to your wonderful life. My husband and I vacationed in Hawaii many times and we never missed seeing the Don Ho Show. My husband and I first saw him in 1969 while on R&R in Hawaii and then on our may trips back made sure his show was on our schedule. What amazed me the most about Don was the time he spent with folks after his shows. He made you feel so special. My husband lost his battle with cancer in 2005 but the most precious picture I have is an autographed one with Don Ho, my husband and I. Of course, another prized possession is the "Suck Em Up" glasses we purchased back in 1969. Don Ho is a special individual who doesn't come along very often. He will be missed.

Don Ho has been such an important part in all of our lives. Memories of growing up in Hawaii, go hand in hand with the sweet melody of the songs he sang to us. It feels like we've all lost a special family member. Our deepest aloha to the Ho family. He's not gone...just gone on.

Dear Ho Family,
I am greatly sadened by the death of Don Ho. I had the privelege of living on Oahu a few years back, and always think of Hawaii when I hear Don Ho's music. I loved his smooth, and easy going style. He was the embodyment of the aloha spirit. He will be greatly missed.

Again, our warmest condolences to Don's Ohana's -- we do miss him very much. My wife, Karen and I, took a couple of trips to Hawaii in the past 5 years and did see Don's Shows. I had a picture from 1969 when I took a 5 days R&R from overseas, and asked him if he could signed it -- and he did ... as well as take a picture with us. It was a wonderful evening. He will be missed. May God comfort him eternally.

My deepest condolences to Haumea and the entire family. To you Hoku ... I hope you try to continue singing in your Dad's tradition. I am a professional singer & first samg Don's songs way back in the middle 60's, and have been singing those great tunes ever since. While I was in Vietnam in 1969, I took a 5 days R&R and came home to Hawaii (Kailua, Kona). Instead of going to Kona to visit the family, I decided to take in one of Don's shows at the International Market Place. I was there alone, when Don asked if there was anyone in the audience without a date and there was only two people that stood up - myself and a slightly older woman. He had us come up on the stage, where he had us dance while he sang a beautiful love song. It was a memorable evening. May God take Don in - eternally.

Uncle don ho, Uncle gabby, and braddah iz all in the same room, what a concert. I can only imagine the sweet beautiful music there three great legends are making right now. As a fellow musician here in hawaii nei, it is the aloha spirit that these three great insivisuals have shown. That will live through me as well as other musicians. Never getting to meet uncle don and uncle gabby, I still feel as one of my ohana has passed. Is it something that we as hawaiians feel cause of the aloha spirit that we share, who knows. I do know this. My sincere condolences to the Ho ohana, he will be missed and loved. To all the great hawaiians that have left us, you will not be forgotten. Please look down on us, and help us never forget the aloha spirit, and sing a song for all of us. Aloha.

As a child, everywhere you went around the Mainland everyone would ask "Do you know Don Ho?" Well...of course, I sang Tiny Bubbles and made silly versions of it as I grew older but I always loved the man. He did show the world what "ALOHA" meant to us islanders. When my co-worker told me that Don Ho made his final exit, i was shocked and saddened as I would any member of my family. My deepest and sincere condolences go out to the Ho family. My father stopped and asked him a question about a secretary of his from years before. He was very gracious and pleasent...always made time to talk story. I grew up listening to Don Ho Gold and memorized many of the songs. I was also fortunate to see Uncle when he was at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in 1982. It was a great show that I will never forget. Don Ho added strings, horns and harp to his show at the Polynesian Palace in 1971. I was the harpist. Don was gracious and very proud of all the musicians, singers and dancers. It was a fabulous show! For four years, it was my privilege to be part of those packed houses twice a night. I've never meet the master showman, the ambassador of Hawaii entertainment. But I can recall singing his song "tiny bubbles" in cadence during my military training and induction into the military. I was associated with the "DON" as coming from the islands, the island of Hawaii, once every one knew, and not just in the military, where I was coming from. The "DON" would automatically come to everyones mind. He is physically not with us among the living nor will he be missed by me because he still lives in the minds, heart, and soul of Hawaii forever. I've never seen him personally at his shows or meet him. But he instilled in me the comfort that you don't have to be in Hawaii to feel the "Aloha", but to give "Aloha" is what Ohana is all about no matter in what part of the world you live in.

It seems like there is no perfect time to say goodbye. Don Ho was everyone's friend. In 1965 I was on R&R from Vietnam. My cousins took me to Duke's to hear Don and the Alei's. Then we met Mr. Lee, the writer/composer of I'll Remember You". Their contributions to the sounds of Hawaii are indelibly etched on my heart and mind.

My first introduction to Don Ho was on the radio in 1965. I thought then what a smooth mellow voice that represented the Islands, when most of us had grown up listening to Hilo Hattie. I was most fortunate to see him perform at the Melodyland Theatre, which was then across the street from Disneyland. My girlfriend and I even went to the Grand Hotel down the street where he was staying hoping to get a glimpse of him up close. For over 40 years I have enjoyed listening to his music. His beautiful haunting I'll Remember You, is the song I have asked for when my days here on earth are over. On Saturday night at a party I was at, we all paused and "sucked em up" for Don one last time. Aloha my friend...

Dear Sir,
To the people of Hawaii:
Waikiki lost a wonderful friend, a true friend. For most of the last half of the last century Don Ho welcomed the people of the world to the islands of paradise, the beautiful eden gardens known as Hawaii.
Akua has now called Don home, God welcomed Don Ho to paradise, as Don welcomed all of us to his home, Hawaii.
He was more than an amassader of the Islands, He was an icon who will be saldly missed by more people throughout the world than most people could ever fathom.
Don Ho was a performer, an entertainer, a singer, father, grandfather, a former member of the Air Force and more.
For me, he was the first to welcome me home. I represent a small group from a generation from the 1960's. I was in uniform when wearing one was not popular. Just out of the Michelin rubber plantation in Sunny South Viet Nam during the first week ofJuly of 1969, I was lucky enough to get an R&R (leave) for a week to Honolulu. I was a member of the Twenty-Fifth Infantry Division and I have yet to visit Schofield barracks.
While I was wearing civilian clothing--it was easy to pick out a GI from the rest of the crowd; we had short haircuts in day when the rest of the world wore theirs as long as possible. As I walked down the street on July third near Waikiki Beach with my, then fiance', a small group of long hairs from the mainland threw firecrackers at us. Apparently they liked seeing the GI just out of the bush duck and start to run for cover.
Later that evening while in attendance at Duke's during a Don Ho show he asked that all servicemen and women stand. I was shocked and bewildered but followed orders. We got applause from the rest of the those in attendance. I got goose flesh. As we stood he welcomed us home. No one else did. Not from the mainland, not from friends or neighbors, no one but Don Ho. It was not a popular war and people just didn't want to talk about it. The second time I was welcomed home was in the year 2003. From William, 'Pila of Hawaii" Chiles an author, lecturer who lives on the Big Island of Hawaii and wrote the book, "The Secrets and Mysteries of Hawaii. And he welcomed me home via the internet. That, after Don Ho welcomed me home some 34 years earlier.
Hawaii is called paradise. It is the most sought after place to vacation than any other place on earth. There will be no other Don Ho as there will be no other IZ---
Don Ho was a god to thousands and thousands of men and women in uniform as he is a god to all others. I ask that the people of Hawaii remember him as he rememberd us. He sang a song called, "I'll Remember You."
He sang it for me when my wife and I visited the Islands 31 years later, "I'll Remeber You." I couldn't stop the flow of tears streaming down my face as he sang. He spent almost an hour with us after the show talking about the top entertainers he'd met in his time in the industry. He didn't have to spend a minute with us--but being so gracious--He did and he spoke from his heart--always from his heart. Isn't it ironic that his heart failed in the end. Maybe not so ironic really; maybe he gave so much of is heart away he forgot to save some for himsel.
Ever since that first time I touched foot on the Island of Oahu, I felt as if I was home, a very special kind of home. Don Ho re-enforced that feeling for me as I longed to go back , to return home again. It took me over thirty years but never the less I returned and I found something out; I found that I had carried Hawaii in my heart all those years and I still do. I have Hawaii in my heart, therefore, I am at home, I am at peace. I had found the Aloha spirit tha he gave me as he gave others who were in his presence.
For all his family and friends Pamela my wife, and I offer our sincere condolences.
With kindest regards, Aloha, Mahalo Nui Loa
Gerald A Van Slyke
If you would send this on to the family, I'd appreciate it--
PS --38 years ago I was sent to a place that no one wanted to go while in uniform and it was an unpopular war and our president was a Texan.
I have a son who chose to be a Marine and is now in a place where no one wants to go, it is an unpopular war and the president is a Texan---
He too got to a Don Ho show--he to was asked to stand--he too was welcomerd home-- by Don Ho.

I first saw Don while on R & R with my soldier husband, who was fighting in Viet Nam. We danced to Tiny Bubbles.
The next time I saw him was 30 years later--he was so charming, hugged me,and called my husband Brother when we told him of our fist visit. We brought our 25 year old son to the show. I had a special pin that i brought along, and asked Don Ho if He would sign it, and he asked me,"what is this?", and i mentioned to him it was a special pin i recieved from my job at the Hospital i work at,and it would be an honor if he would sign it! He asked me my name, and wrote it, and signed his name! People who have seen it said, "You are so lucky to have seen him, and get his autograph!

My husband and I were so fortunate to be able to attend Don Ho's show on August 4th to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. It was a truly magical evening and one we will never forget. It was extra special as Don's son was there that evening and performed Tiny Bubbles! My mother loved Don Ho for centuries and I would not have dreamed of going to Waikiki without seeing Mr. Hawaii". Any time I think of Hawaii I will always thing of Don Ho.

I just wanted to offer my condolonces. Don Ho was one of Hawaii's memorable entertainers, who lasted a whole lifetime. I was so sad to hear about his passing... But I know that he's in heaven, looking down on us in Hawaii. May I offer my deepest sympathy, prayers and blessings at this difficult time. And I just wanted to share that "Don Ho" was loved by everyone... My son, Bubbles, ( Tiny Bubbles ) played on the baseball team that won the World Series Championship in 2005. They talked about Don Ho, and two of our Hawaii boys said they didn't know who Don Ho was. I was kinda hurt that they didn't know, but Don Ho sent us his CD's and other stuff. Mahalo, now we have a collectible, that means the world to us. Thank you Don Ho for all that you gave Hawaii. You will be missed dearl

My mother LOVED Don Ho. From the
moment she first saw him on TV till the
day she passed (12/6/6), he always
brought a smile to her face. Growing up
my Dad was in charge of TV. However,
when Don was on the tube-my mother
took over the TV, no questions asked.
For the past 35 years I have lived in
Hawaii but Mom was only able to visit
me twice. Both times I knew I had to
take her to see him. I have a photo of
them that shows just how good he
made her feel-that smile she had when
he hugged her was the prettiest smile
we ever caught on film!
As much as Don will be missed, I am
happy for my mother because I know she
is smiling that smile, and she will get to
hear his beautiful voice, once again.
Mahalo Don for giving Mom so much joy!

My Dad knew your Dad from young boy time and was So Happy to have us kids go to his shows and go
back stage and be treated like Family. He was Soft/Kind/Gentleman on and off stage. Your Dad showed so much "REAL ALOHA" that I could feel it everytime I saw him. We as others spent frequent
family events as far back as the sixties at his shows. We all walked out HAPPY we went. To Uncle
Don's Family as My children came to know your Dad. God needed another Hawaiian to Sing with the Angel's in Heaven so his journey continues " TO THE END OF TIME". Who knows, maybe your Dad is on the HAWAIIAN WELCOMING COMITTEE. From My Family to Yours it's comforting to think that Our Dad's are at Peace, no more pain, no more tears just Everlasting "ALOHA"

My sincerest sympathies to the family and friends of Don Ho. Hawaii has truly lost a beloved son, a great showman, a wonderful singer and a good man. I was fortunate to see Don Ho when he performed here in Las Vegas in Dec. 2003 and loved both him and the show. My only regret is not being in Waikiki on a day when Don performed aqt the Beachcomber. I would like to say ALOHA to a GOOD man. In 1984 I moved away from Hawaii to become an Orange County Sheriffs Department Deputy Sheriff. I remember when my Tutu, Papa Kala (Gregory Naliielua Sr.) passed away. Don Ho walked in before the funeral started and paid his respect to my Tutu then left. I am sure he did this because he wanted the day to be about my Tutu. DON HO, ALOHA IA OE now it's the PEARLY GATES Along with PEARLY SHELLS and I'LL REMEMBER YOU!!!

I was very saddened to hear of Don's passing. I'd always wanted to see him perform, but never got the opportunity. I feel that he was my first influencial exposure to music/show business. When I was 5 years old, my family went to a hawiian restaurant here in MN that had a floor show with dancing and singing. During the show, the lead singer brought me up out of the crowd to sing "Tiny Bubbles" with him. I've been in front of a crowd singing and playing ever since. Thanks Don, for the inspiration. I wish I had had the honor of meeting you.

My husband & I were very fortunate and happy to see Mr. Ho perform. After the performance, we had the opportunity to speak with him. He was such a charming man and he was well aware of the hurricanes we were having in North Carolina. He was just the same as he was when I used to watch his TV show. I knew we couldn't go to Hawaii and meet "Mr. Hawaii", Don Ho. I have pictures of him and us and wouldn't take anything for them. He was to Hawaii (and the mainland) as Elvis was to us. A great performer has been lost by all who knew of him. He will be missed.

With great respect and admiration I bid Don a big Aloha, I will
miss him.
We played golf several times together and the best story I have
is diving up to the green, (Don remained in his cart 30 feet
away), and seeing Don has a 7 footer to complete the hole. Don
asked me,"Hey Cee, how far am I?" "About 7 feet," I answered.
"Oh, well that's good , could you please pick it up for me?" I
picked it up and we drove to the next hole. When we arrived at
the next tee area and I suggested that becasue this was an easy
hole, maybe we should just call it "good" and go to the next
hole,...... we all had a good laugh.

Auwe! Auwe! Our hearts are heavy. My best memories of Don Ho was several years ago while I was living in Bellevue, Nebraska, he had a show across the river in Iowa at one of the casinos. Along with other locals living in te midwest many of us flocked to his show. Looking around and watching the audience we could see how truly this man spread his Aloha and was a true ambassador of Hawai'i. You could how many of the people attending the show had the dreamy look on their faces...like they were magically transported to Hawai'i. After the show we stood in the long, long lines just to say hello. He singled us out as "home Boys" and took the time to talk story (holding up the line) and were were Ohana. He will be missed. Auwe! My first visit to Honolulu was in 1967 and was I reuniting with my husband who was coming from Vietnam on his first R&R after 9 months in Vietnam. We were only 19 years old and we went to the Don Ho Show. The show was packed with other young couples on their R&R. Mr. Ho made us all feel like family and he was having a party to honor us. There were alot of tears but he helped us to relax and he brought us together with song and laughter. We finally could relax and enjoy Hawaii and our time together. He helped us to overcome our fears of the war and enjoy our R&R. I will never forget this very special moment D with Don Ho. Now I live in Hawaii and I feel honored to be here and will be able to pay tribute to this very loving and caring man, who truly loved all of us. God Bless You, Don Ho

I was fortunate enough to have met Don back in his "glory"days at Duke's in the marketplace. He was the comsumate professional entertainer and a genuinly warm, friendly person. I had the priviledge of playing guitar(briefly) with Sam Kapu at the Queen Surf and spent many nights listening to tales of Sam and Don's exploits. He will be greatly missed and Hawaii has lost not only a loved entertainer but an unofficial symbol of the Aloha spirit of the islands. He will be missed by all but will always remain in the hearts of the Hawaiian people.

My husband lived in Hawaii for 12 years when he attended University of Hawaii. He then attended Law School in Miami where we now reside. When I met him he always said that he was going back to Hawaii, and he did for our wedding. Ever since, we visit Hawaii every year in December and stay for two months. On my first trip to Hawaii, he asked me if I wanted to see Don Ho, and I said "Don who?" I did not know who Don Ho was. After I saw the first show, I fell inlove with it, and it became a tradition for us to always go back and see the show. I am grateful that I had this opportunity of meeting such a beautiful person inside and out. I am glad that my mother got to meet him at least one time too. We will miss him enormously. Dear Dondi, and ohana,
Haven't talked to you since our Kamehameha class of '74 reunion. Ever since I was born again and
found out you were, too, I have been praying for
your dad's salvation. He was famous, kolohe, and
very lovable!
My memory of him is: (I was living in Maui in
1978 to 1996, when I moved to Phoenix with my
family)about 1979, I was spearfishing with some
bruddah's down at La Perouse Bay, past Makena, and as we were walking back (about 1-2 miles) to
our ice chest, somebody picks us up in a Jeep.
As we jump into the jeep, we notice it's Don
Ho and his beautiful wahine, and he says "Hey
bruddahs, you need a lift?" "Sure bruddah!" was
our reply. So we talked story and he left us,
and I'll never forget that!
Me ke Aloha Don Ho! I pray I will see you in
Heaven!

I first saw Don Ho at Duke's in 1965 and immediately purchased his LP. When he appeared at the Coconut Grove, I went to see him there. (He teased me because I was wearing a fur coat.)
Then, in 1997, when we were living in Makiki, our whole family, including my Mom who was celebrating her 90th birthday, went to see him at the Waikiki Beachcomber, and he was so warm and kind, and so much fun!
Don Ho will be missed for his showmanship and charisma and for his generosity in showcasing so many other musicians.

When we decided to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon in October of 2005 the one place we had to go was to see Don Ho. We loved him and his show so very much and were hoping to see him again in 2010 when we go back. We were so afraid of his health that we were planning on going this year to be able to see him again. He was truly a legend and was part of our honeymoon and marriage. Don met with us before the show and asked where we were from and when he heard NJ he said tell Tony Soprano he said hello, I am just glad he got to see the show come back this season I hope he enjoyed it.

Aloha, Mr. Ho! I lived in Hawaii in 1970-71 as a young newlywed and we always enjoyed going to "The Don Ho Show" with all of our friends and family who came to visit us. We were invited to take pictures after the shows and I have lovely memories and the photos to this day. You will always have a place in my heart and will be missed.

I remember how upset Kimo McVeigh became when the finishing touches were applied to the showroom at Duke's in the Marketplace. Don had installed a small black and white television in his bathroom!
My mother died three years ago and I'm sure her conversations with Don are as lively now that they may see one another, as they were when they were both in Waikiki. After being in Don's audience most every year for the past 43 years, to say I will miss his aloha is a giant understatement.

While working for travel company "Classic Hawaii" in the early 90's, I had the great pleasure of getting to know Don Ho personally, and spending a little time with him and his band. What a warm and wonderful person he was. I'm a "rock and roll" guy, but I was knocked out by his voice and soul. In a small way, I feel like I lost a friend. I spent a few, but happiest, years of my life in Honolulu and found the true meaning of Aloha. I fell in love with the people and the music, and Don Ho was so much a part of that scene. He was truly Hawaii, and will be missed. He is familiar with Heaven and quite at home, since I imagine Heaven to be much like Hawaii. God bless the loved ones and adoring fans he has left behind. I have been a fan of Don's for the past 40 years. I first saw Don perform live in person in 1985 when he was headling at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. , and I always went to see him whenever I took a trip to Hawaii. I was fortunate enough to see him perform more than a dozen times over in the next 21 years. Hawaii will not be the same for me without him. I feel like I have lost a good friend. Enjoy your day today, each one is a gift.

I first saw Don Ho in Boston with my parents in 1968, when I was 12 yrs old. I grew up listening to his albums, as my father was stationed in Hawaii (USN) and introduced his beautiful voice to us. Last July I went to Hawaii for the first time to visit my oldest son who is in the USN, and along with my youngest son, who was 12 yrs old, we went to Don's show. He gained 2 new fans that evening, and we are heartbroken that we won't get to see him again this summer. Our condolences to his family. The angels in heaven are now blowing tiny bubbles.......

I took one of my teen twins, Aleksander, on a cruise between the islands a few years ago, and also booked an evening to see the Don Ho Show. I wasn't sure how that would go over and assured him that if he didn't enjoy it we didn't have to stay. During the show, I kept looking over Aleksander's way and it appeared he was enjoying it as much as I was. The ultimate compliment to Mr. Ho came after the show when I asked him how he liked the show and he answered by asking me, "Don Ho said he'll be in Las Vegas this summer, want to go? And this time let's take Nikolaus (his twin brother) with us!" Well, we all went and had a great time, and we got to spend some additional time with Mr. Ho and his daughter after the show. He was an icon of the Islands and one of a kind. With fond memories, Aloha.

I am so sorry to hear about Don's passing. To the HO family: when I meet my mother in Hawaii in 2001, we saw Don's show in Honolulu. He was warm and kind to his audience. I never meet a famous person so down to earth before. And for my mother and I, a special evening we will never forget. I had just been married and sent to an Air Force Base on Guam, where I was quite lonely at times. So, this trip back into Hawaii, a magical place, to meet up with family, and go to this show, where Don Ho sang a touching song about his own kids growing up and time moving fast........made my mom cry. Because isn't that what life is all about.....family?
Again, so sorry to hear of Don's passing.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the Ho Ohana and all his many friends.
Uncle Don/Pops was truly a legend and an ambassador of Aloha for Hawaii. His music will live on forever. Although "Tiny Bubbles" and "I'll Remember You" are his signature songs, songs such as "Days of My Youth", "If I Had To Do It All Over Again" and "I Love the Simple Folk", were songs that truly personified Uncle Don.
In my opinion, there were only 2 entertainers that could do it "their own way", Frank Sinatra and Don Ho. Rest in peace Uncle Don.

It is very obvious that Don Ho meant a lot to everyone. You can read all the comments here and see how he affected people. If I was the State of Hawaii I would do something special for him. Erect a statue, re-name an airport after him. I grew up in the late 60's and 70's. I always watched Hawaii Five-O and first saw Ho on that show. He seemed like a great guy. I'm sure he was. My husband and I have seen Don every year for the last 38 years. We have memories of him that will last a lifetime. He is the only entertainer I know that always opened himself to his fans. Through the years he spent hours and hours signing autographs and taking pictures with fans. I have spent the entire day reading the articles in The Honolulu Advertiser and have shed many a tear in the process. Don Ho was Hawaii and the spirit of Aloha he created throughout his career will never die. I am profoundly grateful to have known him. He was a simple man who did great things and we will never see the likes of him again. We extend our deepest sympathy to Haumea, his family and friends.

I got to know Don Ho when I worked as a Catering Manager at the Hilton Hawaiian Village and he was performing at the old Hilton Dome. I worked with him on several projects including the Aliis reunion concert and his annual Mahalo party that he would host during Christmas time. He was very genuine, gracious, humble and generous. This is from all the family of DANNY COUCH. I married Danny's father. Don Ho was my number one favorite of entertainers from the Islands. I first met Don Ho back in 1967 and every year I came to Hawaii I would go to see his show. That was about 20 times I saw Don. He was one of a kind and a great one! Danny knows Don is #1 and Danny is #2. But that is okay with Danny.
I started collecting a lot of memories of Don Ho through the years and now I am going to get them put in a scrapbook so I can look back at everything I have collected. I showed Don this collection and he was amazed at what I had and where I got it.
Our condolsences go out to every member of the Don Ho family and God Bless all of you.

When I was stationed in Hawaii in 1966-69 I lived in the Jungle back of Waikiki and we used to go to Duke's often to see Don Ho close his show. He used to end it with members from each service getting up and singing their Service Hymn. One night when we got to the Air Force Hymn he ask for me to come up and sing it with him. I did and I could tell he sang it with respect. In 1993 I returned to Hawaii and had to see the Don Ho show again. We got in line for the quid-essential picture with Don and I mentioned the incident 35 years ago. He said "I think I remember that night". We laughed! Later that evening he mentioned that I was in the audience and had seen his show in 1968 and ask me to come up and sing with him again. I did and we sung "Suck'em Up". A wonderful man and entertainer.

Where did the time go... we went to Hawaii on our honeymoon over 30 years ago and saw your show (I can still remember the screaming crowds)...we took our kids to see you 20 years later and they remember being called up to the stage, each being handed a mike, and singing with you while sipping on a glass of gingerale...and we still have the pictures that we had taken with you after the show...Hawaii will never be the same... there will always be something missing!

On my visit to Hawaii last month, my sister and I attended the Don Ho Show where we had our pictures taken with him. Although he appeared frail, he still put on a great show for the crowd. Of course, we sang along with Tiny Bubbles. Back in the 60's or 70's (not sure of the date), my mother visited Hawaii and got an 8x10 photo of Don Ho kissing her. I now keep that picture with my album of my trip to Hawaii. My condolences to his family and friends. I feel sad for Hawaii.

Our family has been going to Hawaii since 1971. We first saw Don At the Hilton and fell in love with him and the culture of Hawaii. I am now 42 and am taking my mother to Hawaii on June 7th. As planned we were going to see Don's show as we have done every year sinced 1971. We have meet and been very loyal customers to Hawaii and the Don Ho show. When you think of Hawaii you think of Don Ho and we are so sorry for the loss of a legand and great entertainer. It is truly an honor to have meet such a wonderful person as well as an icon of Hawaii. Our sympathy goes out to the family of Don Ho and may all of the world be singing "I'll remember you". For Don will always be remembered. Sincerely, The Grota & McLean Family

My prayers are with Mr. Ho's family. I have always been a fan of Mr. Ho's music. Growing up in a military family, I always dreamed of being able to come to Hawaii and see him perform. I got my chance last year when I arrived to Hawaii on my military assignment, and my wife and I went to one of his shows. It was a dream come true. He will definitely be missed.

My condolences to the family of the beloved Don Ho. When my kids were little in NY, they would save money & when I asked what it was for, they said it was for Nana to go to Hawaii & see Don Ho. We moved to HI & @ 1989 she met Don Ho in Kona and took a picture with him, which she treasured. Sad to say my Mom past away on 12/16/06. One of the songs on her service CD was Tiny Bubbles and I displayed that beautiful picture too. When my family in NY heard the news of Mr. Ho's passing they called and said, my Mom was in heaven dancing and singing with him. It made me sad, but made me smile too. Don Ho was loved by many people for his music and song, but most of all, it was his love of Hawaii and the true meaning of the word Aloha. Again, my heartfelt condolences to the family. Aloha..

I was so sad to hear of Don Ho's passing. Don Ho meant so much to me. Don Ho is Aloha. Growing up in Tennessee, I dreamed of going to Hawaii and seeing Don Ho. I made it to Hawaii several times and was blessed to see a few. I consider him a national treasure. No only did he bring us Hawaii, he was a wonderful man to his fans. I still have my picture with him from the last time I saw him a few years back at the Beachcomber. I hugged him. I was so excited to meet him. I even have my picture with his street sign. I would love to see Kalakaua be renamed Don Ho Drive with a statue at the International Market Place. Don Ho drew so many to Waikiki. It's going to be hard to imagine Hawaii without him! God Bless You Don Ho! We Love you. My condolences to his family and friends. Aloha.

Hawaii has lost a true legend. You epitomized the spirit of Aloha and shared it with the rest of the world. Though I only saw your show as a child and remember most fondly the "Brady Bunch Hawaii Episode" I know you've touched many lives by your humble graciousness. You were loved by all and will be sorely missed. My condolences to the Ho family but know that Mr. Ho will live in many hearts forever.

First of all my condolences to the Ho Family. I will never forget the times at Dukes in the Mid 60's when he bought this "sailor boy" a drink. I spent many nights in Dukes. The shows were fantastic. I also saw him once on the mainland in Washington, DC. Great show, but not as much fun as Duke's. I still listen to the albums, have a couple of cd's and tapes. I even had "Woman of the world" played at our oldest daughters wedding in 97. He will be missed by all, and especially all the Servicemen & women who passed through Dukes.
May God Bless You and your family, for you will surely be missed by millions.

In sharing his music and his aloha, he opened the door for all Hawaiian musicians to share their music around the world. The full measure of his contibution will only be realized over time. I would just like to say that I am so sad to hear about Mr. Don Ho. My heart goes out to his family and friends. My husband & I were in Ohau in May 2006 for my daughters wedding. The one thing I really wanted to do sometime in my life was to see Don Ho perform live. I have had a special place in my heart for him since I was a teenager. I have records, tapes and cd's which I listen to almost everyday. When I found out that he was very ill, I kept Mr. Ho in my prayers. Today was very solem for me. I cried and prayed for him. Hawaii has lost a great man. A great entertainer, a great father and a great friend. He will be greatly missed I know by all. I know I will cherish my memory of him for always.
All my love.

I was deeply saddend to hear about the passing of Don Ho,I have loved him for many years. My sister,Kay and I use to watch his show back in the 70s and long to be back in the islands. We did get a chance to see him perfom again in the late 90s on a trip back to Waikiki and it was the highlight of our trip!
Kay passed away in 2001 from a long battle with cancer and requested his music at her own funeral, which was very uplifting and helped me to hear him sing "I'll Remember You" as we laid her to rest.
My son who attnds UH and an aspiring musician and I were just talking about him on the last night that he performed as we were turning to park off Don Ho street and his music was playing on my IPOD in the car. Hawaii will never be the same without his beautiful velvety voice,he was aloha.

Several Years ago at his restaurant at Aloha Tower I cross paths with the gracious Don Ho. I commented on his Carhart Hat, telling him they say "Carharts are as tough as the men that wear them". I bought Don a cold micro brew which resulted in us spending the evening, drinking and chatting about music and the folks who make it so special in Hawaii. That evening will always be memory that makes me realize how great a place Hawaii is, and what special individual Mr. Ho was.

As a new Entertainer trying to find my way you gave me some great advice and I'll never forget you nor your last words; "Always remember kid if you love your people (the audience) they'll love you back!" We were priviledged to see Don Ho's show on April 5th while in Hawaii celebrating our 29th Wedding Anniversary. It was an eye-opener for us. We were impressed with how he promoted the youth, their music and praised the military for their service. His music will live on forever.
It was an honor to meet him personally as well as members of his band (Buster, Eddie and Angel) and his youngest son. This was all due to the kindness of a friend who plays in his band. Don showed kindness, warmth and the true Aloha spirit. He will be missed. Our sincere condolences to his family and friends. Thank you Don for the opportunity to experience your music and good will toward men.

I'd like to speak for the old beachboys, the Kings of Waikiki Beach - the one that are gone now... they were all dear frinds of Don Ho, before he became the consumate intertainer. Steamboat, Chick Daniels, Panama Dave, Blue Makua, Mudd Werner, Watanabe, Richard Taylor, Bobby Krewson, just to name a few - they're all out there, resting in peace outside Canoes at Waikiki. Those were the days of the Royal, the Moana and the Surfrider. Don was a great surfer-we all surfed Waikiki when it was first break and drank beer at the MerryGoRound Bar next to the old Waikiki Sands - those were the days at Hale Au Au - the Golden Days.....We'll miss you dearly and soon we will all surf first break again.....Aloha dear, dear friend.

Aloha Don
I owe my life as a musician, to you as do many, many others in Hawaii that are also in the business. You were always supportive and giving of your time, experience and wisdom. For the last 40+ years, every time I‘d visit your show, I‘d feel that special electricity in the air when you would take the stage. This special power is not common for only other great performers like Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Sammy Davis Jr. even Elvis Presley, had this magic to command the room, and communicate directly with every person in the audience. You left something special with everyone who ever met or heard you perform. I send my love and prayers to all of your family and friends who are there to see you off. Your Kingdom of Waikiki is a lonelier place without you. Aloha Oe my Friend.

Today is a very sad day for Hawaii and the World. I first met "Uncle Don" nearly 40 years ago in the back of the Waikiki Marketplace.. His laid back Hawaiian Style approach to life and his warm and friendly personality instantly won me over. Thru the years I marveled at Uncle Don's ability to attract thousands and thousands of folks from middle America and around the world to his night club appearances. People simply loved him and never tired of his gentle Polynesian jibes and witty Island humor. Thru the years I could always count on Uncle Don for a wise opinion and kind advice. I was lucky enough to work with him on several projects with Pat Morita and others. Those rich experiences revealing Don's kind, generous Hawaiian heart will live forever in my memory.
