Lawmakers must pass water fluoridation bill
We confess to having had a single qualm about fluoridation. And that is that we on Oahu now enjoy one of the world's purest and finest sources of drinking water. So we were reluctant to put anything in it — anything at all. But the argument for fluoridation is impressive.

Sharon offers Bush a useful interlude
If Ariel Sharon's election turns out to be like gasoline thrown on a fire, President Bush must spare no diplomatic effort to keep Israel's Arab neighbors on the sidelines. If this feud can't be solved now, at least we can hope it will be contained.

Inmates should get credit for programs
The present system makes it difficult, if not impossible, to discern how an inmate's demonstrable improvement may influence, or even if it does influence, decisions made by the Hawai'i Paroling Authority. A proposal now before the Legislature could change that.
