Surgery a success for Murakami

Advertiser Staff

University of Hawaii baseball coach Les Murakami underwent successful follow-up surgery Monday to replace the part of his skull that was removed during brain surgery last November, according to a UH press release.

Murakami had part of his skull removed to relieve pressure on his brain after he suffered a stroke Nov. 2. The latest surgery lasted 2 1/2 hours at Queen’s Medical Center.

Murakami is scheduled to return to a rehabilitation center later this week and continue physical therapy, a hospital spokesman said.
