The University of Hawaii men’s swimming and diving team won the Pacific College Swimming Conference overall championship on Saturday in Long Beach, Calif.

Hawaii, which switched to the PCSC after the Western Athletic Conference dropped men’s swimming and diving last year, scored 720 points in dominating the three-day meet.

Cal-State Bakersfield finished second with 689 points.

The Rainbows won 16 of 20 events, including the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, 200 and 400 individual medley, and the 100 and 200 backstroke.

Freshman Mike Gowdy was named PCSC Diver of the Year, and co-head coaches Mike Brown and Anita Rossing were voted Diving Coaches of the Year.

BASEBALL

TCU sweeps UH-Hilo: Chris Bradshaw and Justin Crowder pitched complete games as Texas Christian swept a doubleheader from Hawaii-Hilo, 14-2 and 6-1, in Western Athletic Conference baseball yesterday at TCU Diamond in Fort Worth, Texas.

The series concludes today before the Vulcans (3-10, 2-3 WAC) move on to play top-ranked Rice Thursday through Saturday at Reckling Park in Houston.

"It’s our first road trip, and we came out flat," UH-Hilo coach Joey Estrella said. "We were greeted by two outstanding TCU pitchers. We knew TCU was a good hitting team. We just didn’t score any runs."

Bradshaw (2-1) allowed two earned runs, five hits and three walks while striking out four for the Horned Frogs (6-5, 2-0) in the first game.

TCU tagged four UH-Hilo pitchers for 14 hits. Vulcans’ starter Ben Siff (1-1) lasted three innings, allowing five runs and six hits.

Walter Olmstead led TCU by batting 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs.

In the second game, Crowder (2-0) allowed one earned run and four hits with eight strikeouts.

UH-Hilo starter Anthony Bernal (0-2) worked 6á innings, allowing eight hits, five walks and four runs.

Olmstead again led the TCU attack, batting 2-for-4, including a two-run home run. He finished with three RBIs.

Billy Rayl had two of the Vulcans’ four hits.
