Police yesterday were searching for a missing 57-year-old Japanese woman who was last seen on a cruise ship that was touring the Islands earlier this month.
Las Vegas resident Mia McDonald was last seen on Feb. 8 in her cabin aboard the Patriot cruise ship when it departed Hilo for Kona at 6 p.m., said Honolulu police Detective Joe Self.
The ship departed Kona for Honolulu on Feb. 9 and arrived the next day at 8 a.m., but when the ship arrived in Honolulu, her bed was still made and her luggage, purse, money and identification were in her cabin, Self said. McDonalds passport was not found, Self said.
McDonald was traveling alone and police have no indications of foul play. Self said suspicions were raised because her belongings were found neatly packed inside the cabin.
Patriot officials did not keep a daily tracking log of its passengers and they did not know when or where McDonald departed the ship, Self said.
Self said McDonald was an Oahu resident in 1992 or 1993 before she moved to Las Vegas. Her maiden name was Mia Yokoyama, Self said.
Patriot officials tried to reach McDonald at her Las Vegas address by mail, but were unsuccessful, and reported her missing on Feb. 17, Self said.
McDonald is 5 feet 2, 120 pounds, and has brown eyes and black hair.
