Cotton Bowl MVP to play in Hula Bowl

Advertiser Staff

Kansas State quarterback Jonathan Beasley, voted the 2001 Cotton Bowl offensive Most Valuable Player, will play in the Hula Bowl.

The game will be at 3 p.m. Jan. 20 at War Memorial Stadium in Wailuku, Maui.

In Kansas State’s 35-21 victory over Tennessee Jan. 1, Beasley completed 13 of 27 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 98 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown.

Beasley, 6 feet 1 and 215 pounds, led Kansas State to a No. 11 ranking and an 11-3 record. He is the highest-rated passer in Kansas State history (132.7), breaking the record of 131.90 by Chad May. He’s also just the second player in Kansas State history to record 3,000 yards of total offense in a single season, finishing with 3,135.

Already scheduled to play in the Hula Bowl is Purdue’s Drew Brees, the Big Ten career leader in passing attempts, completions, yards, passing touchdowns and total offense.
