The first Hawaii sectional qualifying tournament for the U.S. Womens Amateur Championship will be July 17 at the Mid-Pacific Country Club.
Hawaii golfers previously had to go to the Mainland to play in a qualifying tournament.
The tournament will be 18 holes of stroke play with the number of qualifying spots determined after entries have closed June 13.
Entry applications are available by calling (908) 234-2300 or at www.usga.org. A handicap of 5.4 or less is required.
Qualifiers advance to the U.S. Womens Amateur Championship July 30 to Aug. 4 at Flint Hills National Golf Club in Andover, Kan.

SWIMMING-DIVING
Rainbow Invitational: The University of Hawaii swimming and diving team begins its spring season with the Rainbow Invitational on Monday. The event begins with the diving competition from 1 to 3 p.m.; swimming starts at 4 p.m. at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex on the UH campus.
KFVE (channel 5) will televise the Rainbow Invitational on a delayed basis Monday at 7 p.m. The meet will be rebroadcast at 10:30 p.m.
Bruce Kennard, head swim coach at UH, expects up to nine teams at the Rainbow Invitational. Participating teams include Wisconsin, Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Drury College and Hawaii. Potential teams include Notre Dame, Iowa, Colorado State, Hamilton College and Le Moyne (N.Y.) College.
