McConaughey's not a romantic comedy guy

Associated Press

LOS ANGELES — Matthew McConaughey wouldn't go see a movie like "The Wedding Planner," but he doesn't mind acting in it.

McConaughey told reporters he normally doesn't like romantic comedies like this one, in which he co-stars with Jennifer Lopez.

"What I liked about this is it was, for me personally, I've never done anything like it before," he said recently. "I'd come off of `U-571,' heavy-duty drama — duty, responsibility, 17 guys. It was nice to go to something light.

"So is it something I'd go see right away? No. No, it's not my first choice."

The 31-year-old Texan will star in another serious movie next — the thriller "Frailty," Bill Paxton's directorial debut about an FBI search for a serial killer.
