California energy woes need not happen here
Wind farms present their own set of land use, zoning and technical problems. They are not an instant or total answer. But they should be an important part of Hawai'i's evolution from a vulnerable, oil-dependent economy to one independent and sustainable.

Civil union bill just, but must not be distraction
It is only a matter of time before Hawai'i recognizes the fundamental unfairness of a system that grants privileges and rights to one segment of the community but not another — same-sex couples. In the meantime, the Legislature must not let itself become bogged down in endless debate and hang-ringing over this issue.
