Woman hurt in Wheeler crash
A 25-year-old woman was in guarded condition yesterday following a two-vehicle crash outside the entrance to Wheeler Army Airfield.
The accident occurred about 4:15 p.m. at the intersection of Kamehameha Highway and Santos Dumont Avenue.
The woman was driving on Kamehameha toward Wahiawa when she apparently ran a red light and her Ford Escort collided with an Army transport truck making a left turn onto Santos Dumont Avenue, police said.
The woman was flown to the Queens Medical Center in critical condition but was upgraded to guarded condition upon arrival.
Police were forced to close both northbound lanes of Kamemameha Highway from Leilehua Golf Course Road to Santos Dumont Avenue, but the road was expected to be open by early evening.
