Hawai'i's public school teachers have overwhelmingly voted to authorize a strike that could come as early as April 5 if their union's demands are not met.
Teachers tonight voted 10,875 to 102 to walk off the job if the state fails to come up with a contract offer that they can accept.
The board of the Hawaii State Teachers Association, the union representing about 13,000 teachers, have already cleared the way for a strike on or after April 5. The union will need to issue a 10-day notice to the state before a walkout can occur.
More details to come.
