Kamehameha quarterback Pono Kam completed 6 of 11 passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns and the Warriors' defense held Kailua's vaunted rushing attack to 78 yards yesterday in a 14-6 nonleague victory at Aloha Stadium.
Eugene Tanner The Honolulu Advertiser Kam completed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Jason Rego and added a 22-yard scoring toss to Waika Spencer to help put Kamehameha up 14-0 with 2:26 remaining in the first quarter. The Warriors out-gained the Surfriders, 133 yards to 10, in the first quarter.
Kailua closed to 14-6 on Kelroy Kohatsu's 7-yard touchdown pass to Keaka Kepa with 1:44 left in the half.
Surfriders running back Damien Torres, who combined with Kekoa Su'a to gain 2,200 rushing yards last season, left the game with an apparent shoulder injury early in the second quarter. He returned in the second half, but played extensively at linebacker and finished with just 23 yards on five carries.
Su'a ended up with 47 yards on 14 carries.
Kamehameha's defense had 11 tackles for a loss, including five sacks. Linebacker Kaipo Sarkissan led the way with nine tackles, including one sack, and defensive end Kapono Rawlins-Crivello added two sacks.

Kamehameha, ranked No. 4 in The Advertiser's statewide Top 10 poll of coaches and media, improved to 1-0-1. Kailua, ranked No. 6, fell to 1-1.
