Wise runs, passes Kaiser past Kalani, 33-14

Shannon Wise passed for one touchdown and ran for three more to lead the Kaiser Cougars to a 33-14 O'ahu Interscholastic Association White Conference victory last night at Kaiser.

Wise ran nine times for 109 yards and scored on runs of 58, 1 and 8 yards. He completed 15 of 20 passes for 104 yards, including a 2-yard TD pass to Matt Ching to open the scoring in the first quarter.

A 58-yard run by Wise made it 13-0. Preston Pires hit Corey Konishi with a 14-yard scoring toss as Kalani closed to 13-6 at halftime.

Kaiser opened up a 27-6 lead in the third quarter on a 1-yard run by Wise and a 1-yard run by Isaac Saffery. Wise's 8-yard TD run in the fourth made it 33-6.

Kalani's Karson Kim scored on a 1-yard run and a two-point PAT pass closed the scoring.

Pires completed 12 of 24 for 127 yards and one interception.

Austen Benito had 214 all-purpose yards, threw 22 yards for one touchdown and ran 31 yards for another score to lead the host Marauders past the Bulldogs in an OIA White Conference game last night.

Krypton Taito, who rushed for 142 yards, scored on a 5-yard run to break a 7-7 halftime tie in the third quarter and Benito sealed the victory with his 31-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Benito hit Ben Ameperosa with a 22-yard touchdown pass to give Waipahu a 7-0 lead in the second quarter. But Waialua came back and tied it at 7 when Alvin Foster scored on a 1-yard run.

Benito finished 8 of 16 for 139 yards and was intercepted twice. He also ran 15 times for 75 yards.

Yusuke Kano threw two touchdown passes and Hiroki Shiozumi returned a kickoff 90 yards for another score as Kwansei, the Japan National High School champion, defeated host Hawai'i Prep yesterday.

HPA's Billy Case ran 16 yards for one TD and passed 30 yards to Evan Moniz for another score.

Both of Kano's TD passes came in the second quarter. He hit Kaoru Ota with a 43-yarder for a 7-0 lead, and after Satoshi Kawahara's 32-yard run made it 14-0, Kano and Kesuke Tokui connected on a 19-yarder for a 21-0 halftime lead.

In another game on the Big Island, Hilo defeated Waimea at Wong Stadium, 27-7.
