One of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu's shortest girls volleyball players stood tallest when coaches recently voted for top honors.

Punahou senior Pohai Nu'uhiwa, who is 5-feet, was small in stature, but big on talent.

Punahou senior setter Pohai Nu'uhiwa, standing at an even 5-feet, was named Player of the Year after leading the Buffanblu to their second straight ILH championship.

Nu'uhiwa's leadership and decision-making took on greater importance from the beginning of the season when it was learned Punahou would be without 2003 Advertiser State Player of the Year Aneli Cubi-Otineru, who was ruled academically ineligible.

But led by Nu'uhiwa, the Buffanblu ran the table anyway with a 16-0 record.

She is joined on the ILH all-star first team by two sophomore teammates: outside hitters Elizabeth Ka'aihue (5-8) and Larissa Nordyke (5-9).

Hawai'i Baptist was represented by two seniors on the first team: setter Brandi Higa (5-5) and defensive specialist Jayme Lee (5-2).

The other first-team all-stars are Mid-Pacific's 5-9 junior outside hitter, Danielle Mafua, St. Francis' 5-10 junior middle blocker, Kawena Otineru (Aneli's sister) and Word of Life's 6-foot junior middle blocker/outside hitter, Careena Onosai.

Nu'uhiwa, Ka'aihue, Lee and Onosai are repeat selections.

Punahou's Scott Rigg was named Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
