The Interscholastic League of Honolulu opens its girls water polo season today with a unique matchup.

When Iolani takes on Kamehameha at the Kapalama campus today, twin sisters will be opposing each other in the 6 p.m. match.

Sophomore Ashley Nickle of Iolani will face twin Karie for the first time in varsity competition.

"I wanted the girls to have their own identity, their own friends, their own teachers and not be in competition with each other in school," said father David Nickle.

Their cousin, Lauren Garrigan, a Kamehameha senior, also will be in the match.

Correction

A picture in Monday's Advertiser featured the Baldwin High School cheerleaders in action. Another team was mentioned. Baldwin finished second to Kamehameha in the large division (12 to 18 participants) in Sunday's Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Zippy's State Cheerleading Championships. Kamehameha coach Melissa Beimes' name was misspelled in the story.
