Conference on writing kiddie books

The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators’ Winter Conference is set for 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Pacific Beach Hotel in the Grand Ballroom Makai.

Speakers include:

Wendy Lamb, Delacorte Press executive editor, who edited the Newbery Award-winning "Bud, Not Buddy."

Jen McVeity, award-winning author of "Dreamcatcher."

James Rumford, Hawaii author-illustrator of "Island Below the-Star," selected by the New York Times book critic as among the top 10 picture books of the year

Graham Salisbury, a former Islander and award-winning author of "Shark Bait" and "Jungle Dogs."

The conference, titled "Dude, Where’s My Contract?: How to Get the Inside Track in Children’s Books," includes a luncheon. Cost is $62 for members of the society; $72 for non-members. For more information, contact SCBWI at gecko@aloha.net or 955-4742.
