Isle golfers have chance at winning a million

Hawaii golfers will have a chance to shoot for cash and prizes at the second annual E-Com 2001 $1,000,000 Hole-In-One Golf Shootout at Waikoloa Beach Resort’s Kings’ Golf course on the Big Island from March 8-11.

Qualifying rounds for this "Closest-to-the-pin" event will start March 8.

The first five finalists will shoot for the $1,000,000 hole-in-one grand prize on March 11.

Coupons for free qualifying shots are being distributed at golf outlets and event sponsors throughout the state. Additional shots may also be purchased.

BODYBUILDING

Hawaii’s Michael Monis will be one of just five National Amateur Bodybuilding Association members to compete in the World Fitness Federation Universe Bodybuilding Championship in Vienna, Austria in June.

A graduate of Waianae High in 1980, Monis will compete in the light-heavyweight division (180 pounds and up).

He won the Mr. Europe Natural in 1998. Monis, 40, also is a Hawaiian International Champion and a Los Angeles Grand Prix Champion.


TENNIS

USTA event in Kapalua: Kapalua’s Tennis Garden and Village Tennis Center will be host sites for the United States Tennis Association’s Boys and Girls National Open, Feb. 15-20.

This is the first time the USTA national junior tournament will be played in Hawaii. The event will draw more than 250 players ages 16-18 to Maui. For more information or entry forms call 669-5677 or email: tennisgarden@kapaluamaui.com.


XTERRA

Local event added: Honolulu’s BikeFactory Mountain Bike Triathlon has been added to XTERRA’s Points Series schedule.

XTERRA, an off-road sport combining a 1.5K swim, 30K mountain bike and 10K trail run, restructured its 2001 season.

The new schedule includes 15 Points Series Races, three regional championships and the USA National Championship.
