FBI arrests suspect in bank robberies

FBI agents today arrested a Kaimuki man on suspicion of staging two bank robberies last month.

Miles Kaneshiro, 40, was arrested at his workplace last night. He will be charged with two counts of bank robbery. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in jail and/or a $250,000 fine.

He was scheduled to appear before a federal magistrate today.

Kaneshiro allegedly robbed the Kaimuki branch of American Savings Bank on Dec. 27 and the Makiki branch of First Hawaiian Bank on Dec. 23.

The robber entered the American Savings branch at 1139 12th Ave. at 2:50 p.m. and presented a demand note to the teller, officials said.

Although the robber indicated that he had a weapon, none was seen. He robber took an undisclosed amount of money and fled.

He is believed to be the same individual who robbed the Makiki branch of First Hawaiian Bank four days before.
