In keeping with recent positive economic reports, economists told the state House Finance and Senate Ways and Means Committee members today they are optimistic about the continued growth in Hawai'i's economy this year.

Fed cuts interest rates
The Federal Reserve, faced with a rapidly slowing economy, unexpectedly cut a key interest rate today by one-half point in an effort to avert a serious downturn. It was the first decrease in rates in two years.

7 workers hospitalized after chemical exposure
Seven workers for Pioneer Hi-Bred International were exposed to an insecticide about 8:30 a.m. today and were taken to St. Francis West Medical Center for treatment.

FBI arrests suspect in bank robberies
FBI agents today arrested a Kaimuki man on suspicion of staging two bank robberies last month. Miles Kaneshiro, 40, was arrested at his workplace last night.
