Achievements

Patrick K.S.L. Yim of
Aina Haina received the Firestone 100 Who Serve award. The award recognizes individuals who perform special acts of service or kindness that affect their communities. Yim, a retired circuit court judge, was selected for his work as founding president of Malama Na Keiki Foundation. He was the only Hawaii resident of the 100 individuals nationwide to receive the award.

Jordan Medeiros, a student at Damien High, and Jonathan Barnes, a student at Punahou School, were presenters at the Supercomputing Conference held in Dallas. Their project, a virtual reality tour of the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum and Park, was viewed by hundreds of delegates. Medeiros and Barnes were the only Hawaii student presenters at the conference.
