Snoop Dogg, Kirk Franklin booked here

Platinum-selling rapper Snoop Dogg and hot gospel/hip-hop performer Kirk Franklin will compete for urban music fans on Feb. 2 when the popular performers appear in separate Oahu concerts.

Snoop Dogg, one of the central figures in "gangsta rap," scored a giant hit with Dr. Dre in 1992’s "Nuthin’ But a
G’ Thang," and has since become one of rap’s highest-selling performers.

Dallas-based Franklin, also a platinum-seller, was called "the answer to gospel’s prayers" by Texas Monthly. Franklin won a Contemporary Soul Gospel Album Grammy in 1999 for "The Nu Nation Project."

Tickets for the Snoop Dogg and the family concert go on sale today at 9 a.m. at the Blaisdell Box Office and Ticket Plus outlets, including Tempo Music,

UH-Manoa Campus Center, House of Music at Ala Moana and MWR at Kunia, with a six-ticket limit per buyer. At the Blaisdell box office, line-up may begin at 7:30 a.m.; the property is closed to prospective ticket buyers before 6 a.m. Random tokens will be distributed at 8 a.m.
