Today

• Chinese New Year celebration, begins 3:30 p.m. at the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club, Lihue, with fashion show, Chinese songs and dance; cooking demonstration by master chef Titus Chan at 6 p.m. and a banquet at 7:45 p.m. $50 per person for adults, $15 for children under 12. 1-800-220-2925.

Thursday

• Next Generation Dinner at Alan Wong’s Restaurant, featuring chef de cuisine Barbara Stange. Warm pastrami sandwich, chilled lobster and grilled beef tenderloin on crispy noodle cake and desert. $65 per person, $80 with wines. 949-2526.

• Wine Dinner, 6 p.m. at Hoku’s at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental, featuring the wines of Guenoc and Langtry Estate Vineyards and Winery. Four-course dinner featuring Waianae Coast escargot and beef tenderloin; $65 plus tax and tip. 739-8780.

Friday

• Australia Day-Go Down Under, a wine and p¬p¬ event, 5-6:30 p.m. at Sam Choy’s Diamond Head Restaurant. Kathy Kam of American Wines and Spirits pours an assortment of wines from down under, and chef Elmer Guzman provides appetizers, including a carved leg of lamb. $20 per person 732-8645.

Saturday

• Wasabi Bistro chefs conduct a cooking demonstration at noon at Liberty House Ala Moana. Chefs Yugo Saito and Jimmy Ueda will demonstrate calamari salad, super California sushi and shrimp tempura in the innovative style of the Kapahulu eatery. Tickets are $10 for a seat and sampling and includes a $10 credit toward a $25 purchase in Liberty House’s home department and a dining certificate for Wasabi Bistro. 945-8023.

• Cooking Basics III: Series of six hands-on classes, 9 a.m.-noon Saturdays at the Kapiolani Community College cooking laboratory. For students with some basic knowledge of cooking; class will focus on preparing a dinner party at home, complex dishes and other topics. Instructor is Andy Nelson. Fee: $175. 734-9211.

Monday

• Greg Norman Wine Dinner, 6-9 p.m. at Sam Choy’s Diamond Head Restaurant. A five-course food and wine pairing featuring Greg Norman Chardonnay, Cabernet/Merlot and Shiraz and food by chef Elmer Guzman. $50 per person plus tax and tip. 732-8645.
