Richards Street Retreat plans fund-raiser salon packages

By Esme Infante Nii

It’s not often that a woman can get pampered and be socially conscious at the same time.

But Diva for a Day, the second annual Richards Street Retreat on Monday, is offering women a chance to indulge in some big-time enjoyment and relaxation, with proceeds going to benefit the YWCA Clothes Closet Store.

The Clothes Closet provides interview and work clothes to hundreds of women "in transition" — those who are coming off welfare, fleeing abusive situations, making the transition from prostitution to prison, graduating from job-training programs or recovering from addictions.

The shop caters to the working woman on a limited budget, with all of its revenues going back to the program.

A group of charity-minded makeup artists, hair stylists, manicurists, massage professionals and others are lending their skills to the fund-raiser. They hail from Kissa Salon, Heaven on Earth, Laura Mercier at Neiman Marcus, Philosophy at Liberty House, First Hawaiian Cutters and other salons.

Women may choose from three packages:

Diva Package ($85) includes a haircut, makeup session and manicure.

Princess Package ($65) includes a massage, facial and manicure.

Countess Package ($45) includes a haircut, makeup session and a choice of either a minifacial, massage or manicure.

The YWCA of Oahu presents the event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Laniakea facility at 1040 Richards St. A package should take one to two hours to complete. Services will be offered by appointment only. Space is limited to 55 seats. Call 538-7061, ext. 0.
