Bernadette Ishikawa keeps an eye on her 77-year-old father, Gilbert Carlos, even preparing his lunch. He's using his walker as part of his physical therapy.

Later, Ishikawa dons surgical gloves as she prepares to clear Carlos' tracheotomy tube, which helps him to breathe.

Ishikawa uses a suction catheter to clear the tube. Because of his ailments, Carlos must stay on the bottom floor of their condo.

Ishikawa bathes her father. "I've cared for him all this time," she says. "I don't want to stop now, just because it is difficult."

Ishikawa pushes him in a wheelchair into the garage where she will wash him, since there is no bath on the ground floor.
