Students gather groceries, cash for the Hawaii Foodbank

By Catherine E. Toth
Advertiser Staff Writer

Get involved. That’s the message the Hawaii Foodbank is hoping to send all Hawaii students as they participate this year’s food drive, called the $20,000 eWhiz! School Sweepstakes.

From Thursday through March 30, the program will encourage students to contribute to the community by collecting food donations.

Every school, public and private, will participate.

There are two ways you can help students reach their food donation goals:

Donate at a school: Each school will be awarded one vote per pound of food or dollar donated.

Donate at First Hawaiian Bank branches state-wide: Each school will be awarded one vote per item or dollar donated. Donors must indicate which school they want credited.

The school with the most votes will receive six eWhiz! computers (non-PC based systems that incorporate DVD technology, communications software and a Web browser). The second-place school will receive four, the third-place school gets three and fourth-place gets two.

The goal this year is 525,000 pounds of food and $275,000. For more information, call Polly Kauahi at 836-3600 Ext. 226, or visit www.hawaiifoodbank.org
