Brothers’ quarrel ends in stabbing

Police have opened an investigation into attempted homicide after a quarrel between two brothers escalated into a stabbing Tuesday in Kakaako.

Police said the stabbing occurred at about 4:10 p.m. at a Hoolai Street residence after two brothers got into an argument.

One of the men was stabbed in his left bicep. While he was at the Pali Momi hospital, the staff reported the incident to police after he refused to do so.

His brother was later arrested by police on suspicion of attempted murder.


Four suspects sought in Waikiki robbery

Police were searching for four men who robbed a 19-year-old man at knifepoint in Waikiki today.

The robbery occurred at about 1 a.m. at 2449 Kuhio Ave., police said.

The victim told police that he was walking on Kuhio Avenue when he was confronted by four men, including one who brandished a knife and demanded money.

The robber took the man’s wallet, removed money from it, and then handed back the wallet, police said. The victim reported the incident an hour later. Patrol units checked the area and did not find the robbers, police said.


Inmate released by accident surrenders

A 39-year-old fugitive who was accidentally released from prison last month surrendered to police yesterday.

Raymond Mathewson turned himself in to state sheriffs at about 4:15 p.m.

Mathewson, who was wanted on various offenses including terroristic threatening, assault and a weapons violation, was accidentally released from the Oahu Community Correctional Center on Feb. 27.
