USC football hires two Punahou graduates

Advertiser Staff and News Services

LOS ANGELES — Norm Chow, a former Hawaii resident who carved a name for himself as a longtime football assistant at Brigham Young University, has been hired as offensive coordinator at Southern California.

New USC head coach Pete Carroll yesterday also announced the hiring of another former Islander, Keith Uperesa, as offensive line coach.

Chow, 54, and Uperesa, 45, are both graduates of Punahou School.

Carroll said Chow’s "ability and reputation as an offensive coordinator are unmatched. The Trojan offense will be highly productive and fun to watch under Norm."

Chow spent last season as offensive coordinator at North Carolina State. Previously, he coached at BYU for 22 years.

Uperesa was assistant head coach, offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Idaho State the past two seasons. Prior to that, he spent 12 years at Snow Junior College in Ephraim, Utah.
