Schools: Lawmakers face tough choices
Schools Superintendent Paul LeMahieu argues that substantial increased spending is needed if the system is to capitalize on what (we hope) are early signs of improvement. Thus his frustration shows when he politely acknowledges Gov. Cayetano's preference to spend on classroom computers while pointing out that they come at the expense of "severely underfunded DOE-priority items."

Chavez created opening for her own downfall
While Linda Chavez' infraction might be a fine point, it goes to the heart of what a labor secretary is supposed to do. The first task in this post is defend and support the rights of employees. If she doesn't believe that the woman working for her, however casually, was an employee, how confident could we be that she would enforce the rights of employees everywhere?
