Kahuku, Kalaheo both 3-0 and OIA East basketball leaders

Kahuku used balanced scoring to overcome the hot shooting of Hunter Lewis as the Red Raiders edged the Kalani Falcons, 66-63, in an Oahu Interscholastic Association boys basketball game at Kahuku.

Kahuku (3-0) will play at Kalaheo (3-0) tomorrow. Kalani fell to 0-3.

Micah Casey scored 16, James Kammerer 12 and Aaron Francisco and Inoke Funaki added 10 apiece for Kahuku. Lewis scored all of his 20 points in the second half, hitting four 3-pointers. But his 3-point attempt to tie the score in the final seconds bounced off the rim.

The game was close throughout with Kahuku leading 25-24 at halftime and 43-42 entering the fourth period.

Casey scored 10 points in the third period. In the fourth, Francisco scored six while Phillip Alisa and Funaki each scored four of Kahuku’s 23 points.

KALAHEO 71, MCKINLEY 44: Skyler Wilson, C.J. Kaimiola and Ikaika Alama Francis combined for 18 of the Mustangs’ 26 first-quarter points as Kalaheo remained undefeated.

Wilson and returning all-state guard D.C. Daniels finished with 16 points each.

Voltaire Gansit led the Tigers with 11 points.
